Christie's Geneva Sells Historical Breguet Hump-Back Clock

Once owned by Caroline Bonaparte the magnificent piece went to the Breguet Museum for a Record Price

At Christie’s Important Watches sale yesterday May 11th the market reacted enthusiastically to the previously unrecorded, single owner family Breguet hump-back travel clock.

Originally owned by Caroline Bonaparte, Queen of Naples, Napoleon Bonaparte’s sister, this masterpiece of important history was consigned by a direct descendant of Caroline Bonaparte.

Sold after a fierce bidding battle to the prestigious Bregeut Musuem for SFr. 723,000 thereby fetching over triple its pre-sale estimate, collectors from all over the world participated with spirited bidding in the room and by telephone... Culminating in a sale that fully reflected the genius of Abraham Louis Breguet, and paed tribute to the extremely high quality and totally original condition of this clock.

This result impressively demonstrates how rare items, fresh to the market and proposed at the correct estimate continue to achieve strong results despite the economic climate, underlining the international appeal of watches and clocks in today’s market.
